The Center for Agribusiness and Technology (CAT) at NIBM was established with a clear mission: to empower the next generation of agri-entrepreneurs through innovation, sustainability, and technology-driven solutions. Initially launched at the NIBM Kurunegala campus, CAT has become a pioneering hub for agricultural education, training, and consultancy, particularly catering to the needs of the North Western Province. Its successful journey laid the foundation for the establishment of the Faculty of Agriculture at NIBM.

CAT provides specialized training and consultancy services in key areas such as:

• Organic Agriculture
• Agribusiness Planning
• Good Agricultural and Manufacturing Practices (GAP & GMP)
• Hi-Tech Alternatives for Agricultural Practices
• Agricultural Supply Chain Management
• Marketing of Agricultural Products

With a strong focus on professionalizing the agriculture sector, CAT introduced Sri Lanka’s first-ever Advanced Certificate Course in Organic Agribusiness Management. This landmark program was designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of young agri-entrepreneurs and professionals interested in Organic Agriculture and Agribusiness Management.

Taking a bold step in sectoral development, CAT has also become Sri Lanka’s first certification body to offer Personal Certification for Organic Agribusiness Practitioners, in accordance with internationally recognized standards. This certification marks a significant milestone in acknowledging the competencies of practitioners in the organic agribusiness sector.

CAT continues to play a vital role in shaping a modern, sustainable, and entrepreneur-driven agricultural landscape in Sri Lanka.
